September 24, 2010 The Longest Day of My Life When I got lost on The Mojave Desert was also during The Jewish High Holidays. The misadventure lead to the most intense spiritual and religious experiences of my life, and encounters with powerful service oriented personalities, including the astoundingly brilliant Sheriff who redirected the search which saved my life, the devoted volunteers of the southwest desert searcher community, the officers of the National Park Service, meeting the Living Jesus in Salvation Canyon, and my later interaction with new communities of artists, some of which I documented over the years on my website and in my books, and the most intense love of every grain of sand, every stick cholla, every canyon of our magical blessed Southwest Deserts .
